Janet

Janet
My name is Janet Starr. I am now retired, and my previous life had been consumed by work and family. But my work as an academic advisor at Western Sydney University finished, and my grandchildren began school, high school and TAFE, I found myself with a lot more time on my hands.
I love to write, so I thought that I would finally write the book that I had been planning to start for my Research Degree, but, as they say, procrastination is the writer's worst enemy, so I began Paint by Numbers during lockdowns in 2020 and have been painting ever since. I find it challenging, but mindful.
I can sit at my easel and easily pass two or three hours, or more, making numbers come to life. I believe that this craft has a place in everyone's life, simply because it can resurrect memories of places, people, pets and landscapes. It requires patience and attention to detail that I never thought possible and offers the opportunity for mindfulness. When I sit before a painting, the real world disappears, and I become consumed by my memories, dreams and goals yet to be reached.
I have painted custom canvasses for people who want memories of their pets, children or events from a supplied photo. As I paint, I like to think of the people who will receive pleasure from my work. My memories and dreams are reflected in my artwork complete. There is a feeling of accomplishment and joy in seeing lines and numbers become a finished painting that can be displayed on a wall. Maybe someday I will finish that book, but in the meantime, I am totally engrossed in my painting.
